Real life examples are given to help educators identify strategies that help when working with a diverse group of parents. - Recognize and acknowledge different forms of parental involvement
- Address some of the most problematic barriers to parental involvement

More Teaching and Less Policing!
In this workshop, consultants will use family dynamics to present ideas and concepts that can be used in the classroom or the entire school to reduce discipline problems. This workshop is based on the book More Teaching and Less Policing. Inspired by the author’s birth family and by her experience as an educator, More Teaching and Less Policing offers guidance to help create a climate of mutual respect and cooperation in the classroom. Consultants will help educators:

- know how to meet their needs

It provides suggestions and strategies to help teachers reduce discipline problems and increase the academic achievement of students who come to school with toxic motivation, anger, and as a result are disconnected. In this workshop, consultants will discuss how teachers can help students understand how to:

VCC, LLC consultants will share personal stories from Regenia M. Rawlinson’s experiences as a teacher and counselor to illustrate how feelings and attitudes affect student achievement.
Experiences from the author’s interaction with students are examined to identify strategies that promote positive student attitudes about learning. This workshop is based on the book My Teacher Told Me I Could and will help educators:
- Examine how negative feelings and attitudes impact student achievement
- Provide strategies to turn student discouragement into action that fosters repeated success
- Create a positive classroom climate
- Examine resiliency and the reason some students have it while others do not
A Mind Shaped by Poverty: Ten Things Educators Should Know
Consultants will share personal stories from the author to illustrate how a student with a mind that is shaped by poverty has a high probability of engaging in self-defeating behaviors. This workshop is based on the book A Mind Shaped by Poverty: Ten Things Educators Should Know. Consultants will:
- Provide strategies to help students with a poverty mindset exhibit appropriate behavior in school
- Help educators develop a deeper understanding of how a poverty mindset infiltrates the classroom
- Identify strategies to help students living in poverty overcome this pervasive mindset to foster academic achievement
- Discuss ten beliefs that stifles academic achievement of students living in poverty
